The Broadway revival of A Chorus Line has recouped its entire $8 million investment after 157 performances 19 weeks, according to producer John Breglio. Since opening on October 5, the show has broken the house record at the Scoenfeld Theatre seven times. A Chorus Line remains the longest running American musical in Broadway history.
A Chorus Line is directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian, with Baayork Lee re-staging the original choreography. Lee recently shared her thoughts on the show with Broadway.com in a Q&A interview. The show was conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, with a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban.
The original production of A Chorus Line won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score and Book, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. It ran for nearly 15 years, playing 6,137 performances.
